Project
With the refurbishment of the Chemnitz Main Station the local and long-distance traffic are to be combined under one common roof. The station is to be newly defined as entrée to the city and important junction in the urban space. For this purpose, the existing station hall dating from the 70ies was stripped down to the supporting structure, and the lower level was opened to the city.
Temme//Obermeier built the matted, printed ETFE cushion façade. As an interactive LED media façade it projects the movements from the environment as light projections onto the facade and it is used for impressive light shows. The ETFE cushions with dimensions of up to 23,0 x 3,0m count as the largest façade infills of this kind. The inner façade of the station hall was covered with flat PTFE/glass fabric tensioned in aluminium frames. This sophisticated, and re-tensionable construction represents one of Temme//Obemeier’s core competences.
